Quirky, vibrant and not so familiar stories

Valcke Art Gallery discovered in Ireland the stunning work of silversmith Cecelia Moore, and ceramicists Cathy Burke and Mike Byrne.

Cathy Burke explores the fragile charm found in nature’s process of regeneration, looking at the rugged beauty found in the constant cycle of decay and renewal.

Mike Byrne is interested in the jug as archetypical domestic object. He uses it to explore the edges of, and the connections between design, function, narrative and art.

Cecilia Moore uses “raising” an ancient, near obsolete process of hammering a flat disc of metal to create hollow sculptural forms. The hammering follows a fluid design, each piece wanders and evolves as appendages and colour is added to find its individual character
