Irish Craft Village at Bloom 2016

Bloom, which is organised by Bord Bia, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

The Design & Crafts Council of Ireland once again presents an exciting range of craft experiences at Bloom including demonstrations and kids workshops and activities as well as the every popular retail area selling a fabulous range of Irish products.

You can meet 24 talented designers and makers behind some of the country’s most popular craft brands and learn more about their work.  Browse through the 20 outdoor stands featuring beautiful products Designed & Made in Ireland. From garden and homewares to jewellery and accessories, there is something to appeal to every Bloom visitor.

Let your children unleash their creativity in one of the many free craft workshops and drop-in activities taking place each day of the festival.  You may even get a chance to join in and experience craft making for yourself!

See creativity in action with live demonstrations by leading Irish craft guilds including the Irish Artist Blacksmiths Association and the Irish Patchwork Society. Watch as raw materials are transformed into a finished piece of craft before your eyes. The 10th annual Bloom festival is sure to provide visitors with a craft experience to remember!

Craft Activities at Bloom 2016 

For BLOOM 2016 the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland present Bloom Garden, inspired craft workshops and collaborative installations. Inspired by BLOOM we are creating a colourful garden of free creative workshops, demonstrations and drop-in crafting for all the family. Parents are asked to stay and join in, activities suitable for children aged 5+ Workshops are filled on a first come basis. Drop-in craft activities will be available daily.

Thursday 2nd June

Felting with Feltmakers Ireland
10am - 3pm, drop-in
Feltmakers Ireland show adults and children show you how using just water, soap and your fingers; you can transform wool fibres into handmade felted butterflies, flowers, caterpillars and larger pieces.

Lacemaking with Lacemakers Guild
3pm - 6pm, drop-in
Meet some of Irelands finest lace-makers showing the traditional and contemporary skills of crafting delicate lace by hand with fine cotton and silk threads.

Friday 3rd June

Irish Patchwork Society
10am - 2.30pm, drop-in
Patchwork makers show their needlework with examples of work by many of the guild members.

Irish Guild of Embroiderers
2.30pm - 5.30pm, drop-in
The Irish Guild of Embroiders demonstrate intricate stitch techniques and invite you to stitch your own sampler.  

Saturday 4th June

Printed Florals with Caroline Ryan, Printblock
-10am - 5pm, drop-in
Explore Ireland’s wildflowers with textile designer and printmaker Caroline Ryan. Learn techniques of Silk Screen Printing to print floral designs to make fabric garden bunting for Bloom.

Sunday 5th June

Clay Pots with Madga Bethani, Amy Mackle & Ashley Sheppard
10am - 5pm, drop -in
Feel the soft clay in your fingers, before making your own pot! Try your hand throwing pots on the wheel and learn techniques of coiling, pinching and building clay pots – perfect to plant your summers blooms in.

Monday 6th June
