Contemporary Souvenir

A collaboration with artist Deirdre Nelson, the Cork Textile Network, the Cobh Lace Makers and St Mary’s School, to create ‘Contemporary Souvenir / Cobh Fish Exchange’

‘Contemporary Souvenir / Cobh Fish Exchange’

This project involves artist Deirdre Nelson, who stayed at the Sirius Arts Centre for a residency and carried out workshops through March of this year.

A series of workshops with the Textile Network, the Cobh Lace Makers and with St Mary’s Schools in Cobh took place at the Sirius Arts Centre in Cobh. Based on the theme of the ‘Fish Exchange' undertaken in Scottish communities the project will consist of the making of white on white fish through traditional lace making, knitting and contemporary textile media, using the Mackerel as the theme or starting point.

The Sirius Arts Centre will be holding an exhibition ‘Contemporary Souvenir / Cobh Fish Exchange’ of the results of the project and Deirdre's work from Saturday 15th October until the Sunday 13th November opening at 7pm on Friday the 14th at 7pm, all welcome.
