Veronica has been responsible for the revival of lacemaking – even setting up a lace trail around West Cork for tourists to follow – and is chairperson of the Traditional Lacemakers of Ireland. She has won international and national competitions, has judged many competitions and teaches lace classes.
Having learnt her craft skills from her mother as a young girl, she kept up her sewing skills and in the 1980s started Limerick lace classes. She soon became an accomplished lacemaker in many of the Irish laces. By the end of the 1980s, Veronica had revived Youghal Lace and started up classes in Youghal, teaching one of the most beautiful of the Irish laces. She won an International Gold Medal for her work on reviving Youghal lace and her handcraft pieces of Limerick lace in 1992 and went on to win many other competitions – national and international -, including a medal for her Youghal lace piece on “Bringing Christianity into the Millennium” and more recently for one on “The Art of Science and Life”. She is now a renowned and popular teacher in both Ireland and abroad, and the summer schools she set up in Ireland have attracted students nationally and internationally.
