Talk on Kaj Franck at Castlecomer Estate Yard Arts and Craft Village
As part of Year of Craft 2011 and to celebrate the World Crafts Council visit to Dublin and Kilkenny, we are delighted to welcome Päivi Juntenaun to give a talk on Kaj Franck’s work.
Kaj Franck is frequently referred to as a conscience of modern design. He was a very influential figure in the thinking behind the establishment of Kilkenny Design Workshops. As part of Year of Craft and to celebrate the World Crafts Council visit to Dublin and Kilkenny, we are delighted to welcome Päivi Juntenaun to give a talk on Kaj Franck’s work. Päivi’s book Kaj & Franck, Designs and Impressions was published this year to celebrate the centenary of his birth.
Päivi Jantunen (born 1947) has worked for nearly four decades in the world of such acclaimed Finnish brands as Iittala and Arabia which today are part of the company Fiskars Home. She has lived in the closely knit communities of Iittala, Nuutajärvi and Arabia right where the icons of design have been produced. She has worked with such great Finnish names of design as Kaj Franck, Timo Sarpaneva, Oiva Toikka and Harri Koskinen and international designers such as Alfredo Häberli, Konstantin Grcic and Giorgio Vigna.
Päivi will be joined in discussion on the day by curator and writer Eleanor Flegg and by academic and writer Dr Joseph McBrinn.
Admission to this event is free and it promises to be a revealing and engaging session.
Talk is on Friday June 10th at 12 noon
This event is kindly supported by the Embassy of Finland in Ireland.
