When is Dublin Mini Maker Faire?
A: It's happening at Science Gallery on 14th July 2012, during Science Gallery's HACK THE CITY exhibition and the ESOF 2012 Conference.
Q: Who is sponsoring Dublin Mini Maker Faire?
A: Dublin City of Science, NUI Maynooth, Irish Robotics Club, and TOG are already supporting Dublin Mini Maker Faire. If you'd like to help sponsor this great event, please email ian.brunswick@sciencegallery.com for more details.
Q: How can I get involved?
A: Lots of ways! Hackerspaces, clubs, and individual makers are all needed to make Dublin Mini Maker Faire one unforgettable event! We will need volunteers, equipment, financial support, workshop leaders, exhibitors, and much more. An 'open call' for applications will open on February 6th until March 6th.
Q: Wait, what is a Mini Maker Faire?
A: The mission of Maker Faire events is to inspire, inform, connect and entertain thousands of Makers and aspiring Makers of all ages and backgrounds through the public gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkers, hobbyists, science clubs, students, authors and commercial exhibitors. The inaugural Maker Faire was held in San Mateo, CA and just celebrated its sixth annual Bay Area event with some 100,000 people in attendance. As Maker Faire continues to grow in popularity and relevance, it expanded to Detroit and New York City in 2010. Maker Faire is supported by MAKE Magazine and O'Reilly Media, the premier information source for leading-edge computer technologies. The company's books, conferences and web sites bring to light the knowledge of technology innovators. Community-driven, independently produced Mini Maker Faire events inspired by Maker Faire are now being produced around the United States and beyond including this inaugural event in Dublin.
For now, here is a great video by Dale Dougherty, where he explains that we are all makers:
